Montana Fly Company Strung Ostrich Barred Feathers

Barred ostrich is one of our favorite new materials for tying steelhead flies that really pop! The old days of painstakingly barring the herl with a Sharpie marker are now behind us…. This is the only ostrich that we know of that is sold strung – all the fibers extend off of a piece of fabric rather than off the natural stem of the plume. This is like buying a 2.5 inch section of an ostrich plume with 5″ long nice and fluffy fibrettes (herl). Incorporating barred ostrich is a great way to make your winter steelhead patterns really stand out.
